WebSpecular highlights are often extremely distracting in a photograph. They readily appear under strong flash and artificial lights. Unfortunately for photographers the bright spots create a burnt out white spot on the photograph. The camera sees these bright spots and is less able to cope with very bright spots than the human eye. WebGive your photos depth. Bright highlights and rich shadows make photos compelling and memorable. Highlights are the lightest elements in an image, whereas shadows are the darkest areas. Dynamic range is the ratio between those vivid highlights and dark shadows, from bright white to pure black. That range is key to an image’s depth and drama.
