WebbIn 2001, Winchester released a new rebated rim cartridge called the 300 Winchester Short Magnum. Also known as the 300 Win Short Mag or 300 WSM, it was a cartridge designed with North American hunters in mind. Capable of being fired in a short action rifle, the 300 WSM offered hunters a light rifle with magnum ballistics. Webb13 dec. 2024 · It’s a rebated rim so the case head stays at the .223-standard .378, and has same rim thickness, so no new bolt needed. It’s kind of a stretched and necked-down 6.8 SPC, and it’s the same overall case length as .223 Rem. The extra capacity comes from a .420 body diameter, supplemented also by its 30-degree shoulder.

Webb17 mars 2013 · This is ideally done with a no-go headspace gauge, but can be quickly checked by snipping out a few tiny shims from an aluminum beer can. Put a factory round in the chamber (BE CAREFUL!) Stack the shims on the case head. If the bolt will close with two or three shims stacked up, you have problems, either with the ammo or your chamber.
